Subject: Swinburne University Postdoctoral Fellowship in Galaxy Evolution
To those who might be interested in a new postdoc position in galaxy
formation/evolution at Swinburne, please read on!
The Centre for Astrophysics & Supercomputing at Swinburne University
invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Galaxy
Evolution to join Brad Gibson and the computational astrophysics group
(Gibson, Daisuke Kawata, Sarah Maddison, and 2-3 PhD students).
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable:
n-body/SPH/adaptive mesh simulations of galaxy formation; galactic
chemo-dynamics; chemical evolution; spectral synthesis; computational
radiative transfer; large-scale structure simulations; stellar evolution
(yields).
The successful applicant will join a vibrant, rapidly growing Australian
research institute, and will have unlimited access to one of the country's
most powerful workstation clusters (70 Gflops and 2 TBytes of disk space)
and our virtual-reality projection facility. Swinburne University is a
founding member of the Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing, and
is hosting the 2001 Astronomical Society of Australia Annual Scientific
Meeting and Harley Wood Winter School.
Interested candidates should send a CV, brief statement describing
research interests, and relevant contact information for three referees,
to Brad Gibson. EMail submissions are strongly encouraged. The
appointment will initially be for two years, with probable extension to a
third, with a very flexible start date. Applications received before 15
February 2001 will receive full consideration. For further information,
contact bgibson@swin.edu.au. A full job description is available from
http://www.swin.edu.au/astronomy/.
Cheers,
Brad
