Subject: IGPP Postdoc positions
Dear colleague,
I hope you don't mind forwarding this email message to qualified
postdoctoral candidates personally known to you. This has been helpful in
the past for attracting excellent postdocs interested in working with me.
Sincerely, Wil van Breugel.
-----
The astrophysics group at IGPP/LLNL has several positions available, at
least one of which is for a postdoc working with me on the formation
and evolution of massive (radio) galaxies and proto-clusters.
This work makes use of the Keck telescopes, to which we have direct
access, as well as many other telescopes (Lick, AAT, VLT, VLA, WSRT,
JCMT, IRAM, HST). At LLNL we also have an ongoing program to develop
tunable filters, which would be ideal for such studies, as well as
significant computer resources, which may be used for detailed (3D)
numerical simulations of galaxy formation processes (origin of Ly-a halos,
starburst superwinds etc.).
Applicants with experience in optical/IR observations and/or tunable
filter development and/or numerical simulations relating to galaxy
formation and starburst activity processes are especially encouraged
to apply.
For more information about our work see
http://www.llnl.gov/urp/igpp/galaxies/ for our website, and
http://www.aip.org/baas/vol_33toc.html for the LLNL Observatory Report.
These positions have been advertised in the BAAS (adv. nr 12295; see
http://www.aas.org/JobRegister; deadline February 1, 2002). Joint
postdoctoral positions with other LLNL institutes are also available
(AAS adv. nr 12294), and will appear in Physics Today (December issue)..
Email enquiries may be send directly to me (wil@igpp.ucllnl.org), but
formal applications will have to be submitted as described in the BAAS
advertisements.
