Subject: postdoctoral positions
I am writing to tell you about a number of postdoctoral opportunities
here at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Two or more involve
working with Martin Weinberg and myself studying the theory of cosmology,
galaxy clusters, galaxy formation and evolution, and galactic
structure through either the analysis or performance of computer simulations.
The other involves working with Steve Schneider and myself studying galaxy
formation, evolution, and dynamics using data from the 2MASS survey by
measuring galactic large scale structure, photometric redshifts, luminosity
functions, and other galaxy properties. The entire 2MASS catalog will be
available locally at UMASS.
Could you please inform anyone that may be interested.
I append both ads as they appear in the AAS register.
Thank you very much.

The Computational theory group in the Astronomy Department at the University of
Massachusetts Amherst anticipates hiring one to three postdocs in the areas
of cosmology, galaxy clusters, galaxy formation and evolution, and galactic
struncture. The successful candidate will perform/analyze computer
simulations in these areas. The positions will initially
be for two years and may be extended to three years. The number of positions
will be contingent on funding.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and salary will be
commensurate with qualifications and experience. To apply, please
submit a resume consisting of a curriculum vitae and a statement of
research interests and arrange for three letters of recommendation to
be sent to Dr. Neal Katz, c/o Terri Grzybowski, Department of
Astronomy, LGRT 640, University of Massachusetts, Amherst,
MA 01003-4525. Review of applications will begin as soon as they are received
and will continue until the positions are filled.
To ensure consideration, applications
should be received no later December 15, 2000.

The Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) survey at the University of Massachusetts
Amherst anticipates hiring one postdoc to study galaxy formation, evolution,
and dynamics using data from the 2MASS survey by measuring galactic large scale
structure, photometric redshifts, luminosity functions, and other galaxy

The successful applicant could have a background as either a theorist or an
observer and will work closely with Neal Katz, Steve Schneider and other
members of the extragalactic group at UMASS including James Lowenthal, Daniel
Wang, Martin Weinberg, or Judy Young. The position will initially
be for two years and may be extended to three years. Both the duration and
availability of the position is contingent on funding. Candidates must hold a
Ph.D. and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
To apply, please submit a resume consisting of a curriculum vitae and a
statement of research interests and arrange for three letters of recommendation
to be sent to Dr. Neal Katz, c/o Terri Grzybowski, Department of
Astronomy, LGRT 619E, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003-4525.
To ensure complete consideration, applications should be received by
