Postdoc position related to Herschel and Planck missions at Strasbourg data
Center.

The "Centre de donnees astronomique de Strasbourg" (CDS) is opening a 
postdoc position (1 year, renewable) to participate in support of the
Herschel and Planck missions. The objective is to provide the communities
associated with these two missions usable processed data from a wide range
of origins (IRAS, DIRBE, H-alpha, CO, HI, Av, etc.). The treatment of
extended emission objects in the Virtual Observatories will benefit from
this work.

The work consists of homogenizing and describing data useful for the Herschel
and Planck mission preparation. The major task is to resample maps from
various instruments and spatial resolutions onto a common grid and a common
beam in order to allow multi-wavelength analysis. It requires the
exploration of different methods to perform this operation, their practical
implementation and testing, and to describe the datasets in a standardized way.

50% of the time will be dedicated to these tasks, the other 50% will
be free for science.

The candidate should have a PhD in astrophysics or equivalent, be familiar
with far-infrared/submm data and he/she must be experienced in map
projection and resampling operations. A scientific interest to the ISM
in the Milky Way and the observation of its extended emission will be
preferred.

The position is available immediately, but the starting date is negotiable.
