Hello Benoit,

we are looking for a postdoc in our LSU group, and we were wondering
if you could please pass this announcement along to the VIRGO
community. Let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks!

Gaby.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Senior Postdoctoral Researcher, or
Research Associate 4 or 5
Louisiana State University

Louisiana State University is looking for a scientist beginning in
fall 2006 to participate in data analysis, instrument development and
commissioning at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave
Observatory (LIGO) in Livingston, Louisiana. An appointment may be
made at the Research Associate 4 (Masters or equivalent degree in
related field plus 1-2 years related experience required), Research
Associate 5 (Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related field plus 1
year experience required), Senior Postdoctoral Researcher (Ph.D. or
equivalent degree in a related field plus 3 years experience
required), or Postdoctoral Researcher (Ph.D. or equivalent degree in
a related field required) level. Salary will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience. The LIGO detector measures extremely
small changes in length along its two 4 km arms using state-of-the-
art waves from distant high-energy astrophysical events including
coalescing compact objects and supernovae. LIGO research is carried
out by a large, international scientific collaboration. LSU’s
gravity research group includes a large group of theoretical and
experimental faculty (Joseph Giaime, Gabriela González, Bill
Hamilton, Warren Johnson, Gabrielle Allen, Luis Lehner, Jorge Pullin,
Ed Seidel), and a number of postdocs and students; the group has 30+
years of experience in the field, beginning with LSU’s “ALLEGRO”
cryogenic bar detector. In the experimental group, we are active in
data analysis, diagnostics and calibration of the present LIGO
detectors, and in the development of next-generation technology for
advanced detectors. Since our campus is only 42 km from LIGO, we
also play a role in the day-to-day detector commissioning and
characterization. Desirable experience includes data analysis
including statistical techniques and software development using Unix
c/c++ and/or Matlab, control systems; precision measurement
techniques; and laser interferometry. Please send a full CV and
contact information for three references to Professor Gabriela
González, Louisiana State University, Department of Physics and
Astronomy, 202 Nicholson Hall, Baton Rouge, LA 70803. Application
deadline is February 1, 2006 or until candidate selected. For more
information, please contact Professor González at:
gonzalez@lsu.edu. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to
apply. LSU is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access Employer.
