FACULTY OF SCIENCE
DANISH ASTEROSEISMOLOGY CENTRE (DASC)
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY
UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS
DENMARK

Research scientist in asteroseismology

A postdoctoral position is open at the Danish AsteroSeismology Centre
(DASC), based at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University
of Aarhus. The position is funded by the Danish Natural Science Research
Council, with additional funding expected through the HELAS Co-ordinated
Action, supported by the European Commission. The position will be filled
as soon as possible and initially runs until 30 June 2007,
but it is expected to be extended to a total fixed term of three
years within the HELAS context. The duties cover activities both in
research in asteroseismology and in outreach in helio- and asteroseismology.

The successful candidate is expected to take active part in the
development of techniques for the modelling and interpretation of
asteroseismic data, including preparations for and participation in the
analysis of data from the COROT and Kepler satellite missions and
other possible asteroseismic missions, as well as groundbased observations.
Contributions to the development of the Aarhus stellar evolution and
oscillation codes are highly desirable.

The outreach activities are expected to be carried out within the
HELAS project, a Coordinated Action which includes around 10 European
institutions. The activities will involve coordinating outreach, including
the development of teaching material and material for the general public,
between the HELAS partners, as well as contributing to the outreach
activities within DASC.

Applications must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, a
complete list of publications, and a statement of research experience and
interests, teaching qualifications, as well as experience in and ideas
for outreach, all in four copies. All other material that the applicant
wishes to be considered in the evaluation (publications and other
documentation of research and outreach experience) must be enclosed in
three copies. Names and contact information of three persons familiar
with the applicants research record and willing to provide letters of
reference should be included.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of
Finance and the Confederation of Professional Unions.

The Faculty refers to the Ministerial Order No. 170 of 17.03.2005
(http://www.au.dk/da/21-05.htm) on the appointment of teaching and
research staff at the universities under the Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation.

Applications should be addressed to The Faculty of Science, University
of Aarhus, Ny Munkegade, Building 1520, DK-8000 Aarhus C, Denmark, and
marked 212/5-135.

The deadline for receipt of all applications is 1 February, 2006, at
12 noon.
