Dear Colleague,
this is to inform you about the opening of 1-2 post-doc positions
in Astrophysics and 1 post-doc position in Astroparticle at SISSA.
Please find enclosed the Announcements. The deadline for the
applications is 30 Nov.
We would be grateful if you could spread the information among
colleagues and interested candidates.
Many thanks and best regards,

POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN ASTROPHYSICS AT SISSA
The Astrophysics Sector (http://www.sissa.it/ap/) of the International
School for Advanced Studies of Trieste (Italy) expects to have an
opening for up to two research associate (post-doc) positions starting
in Fall 2006.
The positions are for two years (formally 1+1 but with renewal based
only on reasonable scientific performance).
The research areas in which the candidates are expected to contribute
include: early universe, cosmic microwave background, large scale
structures, galaxies, dark matter, galactic and extragalactic
black-holes, high energy astrophysics, relativistic astrophysics,
gravitation theory. (See http://www.sissa.it/ap/research.html for
more detailed information).
The selected candidates are expected to take part in the scientific
activity of the sector and to carry on their research. There are no
(compulsory) teaching duties.
The salary is more than adequate for the local cost of living and we
offer a generous funding for traveling and invitations of
collaborators. SISSA also offers good computer facilities and access
to supercomputing resources.
All the scientific (and most administrative) activity in SISSA and
ICTP is in English and we provide facilities, especially for foreign
members (housing office, Italian classes, etc.).
The SISSA astrophysics sector consists of a faculty of eight permanent
members and three contract researchers. In addition there are
currently 9 postdocs and 25 graduate students (with 13 foreign
members). Several additional professors and postdocs are often
visiting and collaborating with the sectors members (see
http://www.sissa.it/ap/people.html).
SISSA is an International and multidisciplinary PhD school, unique in
Italy, in the fields of Physics, Maths and Biophysical Sciences. It
is located in a wonderful location on the Adriatic coast in the
Miramare area facing the Gulf of Trieste, 130 km east of Venice. It is
also in a convenient location nearby Slovenia, Austria and Croatia.
SISSA is organically inserted in the Miramare Science Campus which
includes prestigious institutions like the Abdus Salam International
Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). The synergy of institutions
offers an unequalled opportunity of scientific interchange with
numerous local and visiting scientists, very frequent seminars and
colloquia and a stimulating international environment.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications,
brief descriptions of past research and future plans, and have at
least two letters of recommendation sent by hard copy to:
Head of the Astrophysics Sector
SISSA
via Beirut 2-4,
34014 Trieste,
Italy
or you can also send your application and letters electronically to
Dr. Lorena Bencina mailto:bencina@sissa.it
Completed applications should be received no later than Nov. 30, 2005.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN ASTROPARTICLE PHYSICS AT SISSA
The Astroparticle group of the International School for Advanced
Studies of Trieste (Italy) announces an opening for one research
associate (postdoc) position starting in Fall 2006. The position is
for two years.
The SISSA Astroparticle research initiative (http://www.sissa.it/
app/) is a joint effort of the Astrophysics (http://www.sissa.it/ap/)
and High Energy (http://www.sissa.it/he/) sectors aimed at developing
this fast growing area of research and at offering a Ph.D. curriculum
in this subject.
The research interests of the Astroparticle group include, among
others: Dark Matter, Dark Energy, Neutrinos, Cosmic Microwave
Background, Quantum Gravity, Gravitation Theory, and Analog Models of
Gravity. Furthermore, there is a large overlap with several lines of
research of the astrophysics (http://www.sissa.it/ap/research.html)
and high energy (http://www.sissa.it/he/research/) sectors.
SISSA is part of the Miramare Science Campus which includes the Abdus
Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, http://
www.ictp.it/) and the Department of Theoretical Physics of the
University of Trieste. The synergy of institutions offers an
unequalled opportunity of scientific interchange with numerous local
and visiting scientists, very frequent seminars and colloquia, and a
stimulating international environment.
We offer a generous funding for traveling and invitations of
collaborators. SISSA also offers good computer facilities and access
to supercomputing resources. Additional free services include the
assistance of a housing office and Italian classes. All the
