Subject: Poste de Professeur Virgo-LAL

Dear colleagues,

This is to inform you that a tenured position at the Associate Professor
level will be opened at the University of Paris-Sud in Orsay, starting
next academic year (September 2006). The position is created at LAL
(Laboratoire de l'Accelerateur Lineaire) in the context of the exploitation
of the data from the Virgo interferometer built in collaboration between
CNRS (France) and INFN (Italy), and its future upgrades.

The Virgo-LAL group has been heavily involved in the construction of
Virgo and is actively participating in the commissioning which is
expected to continue in 2006. At present the major activity of the group
is the preparation of the data analysis. We are leading the search for
short transient sources (bursts) in Virgo and collaborating with LIGO to
elaborate coincidence searches.

Thus we are looking for an experienced physicist capable of leading activities
in the forthcoming phase of intensive data analysis and in the R&D on future
upgrades of Virgo, and also motivated by academic teaching and student
supervision.

The selection process involves several steps:

(1) validation of the application by the National Committee for Universities
(CNU). This can be done through the web on

<http://www.education.gouv.fr/personnel/enseignant_superieur/enseignant_chercheur/notinfo.htm>

This first step must be done by October 19 2005 and is mandatory for further
consideration of the application.

(2) the opening of the position will be officially announced later this year
and the complete application will have to be submitted around January 2006
(the exact date will be known at the time of the announcement)

(3) the selection step will be organized at Orsay in Spring 2006.
