[astro-jc] Post-doc position Xavier Bonfils

1PLANETARY RESEARCH POSITION

Research with OSIRIS onboard the Rosetta orbiter at the Max-Planck-Institute for Solar System Research (MPS), Katlenburg-Lindau

We are strongly involved in various instruments onboard the orbiter and lander of the ESA Rosetta mission to comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The science cameras OSIRIS will observe several planetary objects on the way to the rendezvous of Rosetta with the comet. The next object will be comet Tempel 1 during the flyby of the Deep Impact mission in July 2005.

A primary task of the successful applicant will be to support the observations of OSIRIS during Deep Impact and the subsequent scientific data analysis that includes the performance verification and calibration of OSIRIS. She or he will also get involved in building operational sequences (high level) of future activities such as the Mars and asteroid flybys. This includes appropriate modeling.

We invite applications from physicists with interest in planetary science and expect the candidate to have some knowledge of cometary physic and asteroids. Experience in image processing (and specifically IDL) would be advantageously.

The postdoc research position is available immediately, with an initial contract for one year with the possibility of extension. Interested applicants are invited to contact us as soon as possible.
