     Postdoctoral Research Positions
     Laboratoire d'Astrophysique
     ECOLE POLYTECHNIQUE FEDERALE DE LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND.

     The Laboratory of Astrophysics of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale
     de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland), located in the same building as
     the Geneva Observatory, announces the opening of up to 3
     postdoctoral research positions in observational cosmology and
     extragalactic astrophysics.

     The successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to carry
     out independent research.  They are also expected to work with
     Prof.  G. Meylan and Dr.  F.  Courbin.  Preference will be given
     to candidates with a background either in strong lensing, in the
     study of quasar host galaxies or in the study of the high-redshift
     universe.  A demonstrated background in integral field
     spectroscopy will be considered as an advantage.  The successful
     candidates must hold a PhD prior to arrival.

     The appointments are for two years with a possible extension for
     one more year.  Stipends depend on the year of Ph.D. thesis and
     will be in the range CHF 70,000 - 82,000.  Additional funds are
     available for travels to conferences and removal expenses.

     The positions are available immediately.  Applicants should submit

     POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP  IN THEORETICAL COSMOLOGY
     UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE

     The Cosmology Group at the University of California, Irvine
     expects to have one or more postdoctoral fellowships in
     theoretical cosmology available beginning Fall 2005.  The
     successful applicant is expected to carry out original research
     independently or in collaboration with members of the Physics and
     Astronomy Department at UCI. The successful applicant will have a
     proven track record in one or more of the  following areas:
     structure formation, cosmic microwave background, early universe,
     gravity waves and galaxy formation.

     Theoretical cosmologists at Irvine include James Bullock, Asantha
     Cooray, Jonathan  Feng and  Manoj Kaplinghat.   Extra-galactic
     observers include Aaron Barth,  Elizabeth Barton and Tammy
     Smecker-Hane.  More information  about the cosmology, astrophysics

     The appointment is for two years with the possibility of a third
