Subject: [OLBIN] Postdoc in Optical Interferometry

The Center for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP) accepts
applications for a POSTDOC position in the field of OPTICAL
INTERFEROMETRY. The grant is for one year, renewable up to 3 years.

CAUP is involved in the design, modeling and testing of an integrated
optics multi-way beam combiner fed by highly birefringent fibers --
VITRUV. VITRUV is a proposition for 8 beam single-mode imaging
instrument for the VLTI with polarization and spectral resolution
capability covering potentially a 0.5 - 5 microns range. This project is
partly funded by OPTICON/JRA4 and is being developed in close
collaboration with Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Grenoble (PI),
Observatoire de Lyon and Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do
Porto (FEUP).

The selected candidate is expected to contribute to one or more of the
following activities: instrument design; system modeling; image
reconstruction analysis; instrument testing. These activities are
aimed at the preparation of a proposal for 2nd generation instruments
for ESOs VLTI and in subsequent feasibility studies. The selected
candidate is also expected to conduct personal research.

Applicants should forward:
1. the curriculum vitae,
2. letter presenting the motivation of the candidate
   (including personal research programme),
3. three recommendation letters as well as the referees contact.

The DEADLINE for applications is the 20th of October 2004. Prospective
starting date for the selected candidates is November 2004, with some
flexibility.

The applications and inquiries should be directed to:
