HERSCHEL Research Associate in the Astrophysics Group
Imperial College, London
Department of Physics

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position within the
Astrophysics Group to work in our HERSCHEL-SPIRE group to start as soon as
possible. Initially the post will involve a strong element of software
development, working on the design of the scientific data processing for
the HERSCHEL SPIRE instrument. However you will also be expected to
develop a strong involvement in the HERSCHEL-SPIRE Science Programme, and
there are opportunities for collaboration with our active far infrared and
submillimetre group.

Programming experience is essential and experience in JAVA programming
would be highly desirable. A PhD and a research background in
extragalactic astrophysics are essential. The post is funded through to
the launch of HERSCHEL (Feb 2007).

Salary will be in the range 21,368 - 31,142 per annum, depending on
qualification and experience. The post is available for two years in the
first instance with a possibility of extension depending on funding.
