Dear Dr. Merand,
The U.S. Naval Observatory is again beginning to actively seek
candidates for
possible short-term (post doc) or longer-term (contractor or civil servant)
positions working on the NPOI project. Although a decision to hire is
funding-
dependent, we are starting to seriously look for candidates. Peter
Lawson has
indicated that you may be looking for a position in the not too distant
future,
and I'm thus writing to you to gauge your interest.
We are particularly interested in finding somebody to work with Dr.
Christian
Hummel on improving imaging algorithms and software and work with NPOI
data in
support of a survey of the bright stars (V </= 6) using the co-phased
6-element
NPOI array, as well as possibly working with Dr. Jim Benson on related
topics
having to do with detector performance, system throughput, and system
stability. The position will most likely be located at the NPOI site in
Flagstaff, AZ.
There would also be opportunities for the successful candidate to pursue
other
research of their choosing.
If any of this interests you, please let me know, so that we may pursue
further discussions.
regards,
Don Hutter
