JILA supports a very active Postdoctoral Research Associates Program. Research
Associate appointments are offered for durations of one year or more and
provide training in connection with various research programs in JILA.
A number of prestigious National Research Council (NRC) Postdoctoral
Fellowships are available through sponsorship by NIST scientists.
Direct inquiries about research opportunities to the appropriate senior
scientist; names appear in the JILA Faculty section found on the JILA home
page.
You can download application forms to your computer. To then print the
forms, use the print icon at the far left of the Adobe Acrobat toolbar,

There are many benefits of postdoctoral research for both the scientist
and the institute. Some scientists undertake postdoctoral research to gain
experience in a
new field. Others, who have backgrounds primarily in fundamental research,
choose to do postdoctoral work in applied research. And still other scientists
choose
to do postdoctoral research to gain more technological experience. For
scientists interested in pursuing an academic career, postdoctoral research
can provide
advanced training.
Recent JILA postdoctoral research associates have moved into a variety of
professional positions, including academic positions at institutions such as
the
University of North Carolina, the University of California at Berkeley,
the University of Virginia, and Yale; government positions at laboratories
such as NIST,
NOAA, NASA-Goddard, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory; and
industrial positions at companies such as Intel, New Focus, and Aerospace
Corporation.
