The University of Arizona Department of Steward Observatory invites
applications for a postdoctoral Research Associate position in
cutting-edge direct extra-solar planet detection and characterization
with Asst. Professor Laird Close and Dr. Phil Hinz. The successful
applicant will
participate fully in project development, research, observation, data
reduction, analysis, writing journal articles, and presenting the work
at other
institutions and conferences. Expertise in high resolution infrared
observation is highly desired, but not required. Experience in adaptive
optics, infrared data reduction, and substellar astronomy is also
preferred. Candidates must
have a background in any sub field of astronomy, and by the start date
the candidate must have a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, or a related
field. The successful applicant will be provided with a research budget
and
will have full access to an advanced workstation and the unique high
resolution infrared observational facilities of the University of
Arizona (such as
nulling interferometry at the 6.5m MMT & Magellan telescopes). The
appointment will be initially for two years, with a third-year extension
based on
