ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPPORTUNITY
POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN THEORETICAL PHYSICS
CENTRO DE ESTUDIOS CIENTIFICOS (CECS)
VALDIVIA, CHILE
The Centro de Estudios Cient=EDficos (CECS) in Valdivia is offering two
postdoctoral positions in Theoretical Physics. The appointments could start
as early as March 2002. Applicants should send curriculum vitae, statement
of research interests and three letters of recommendation to Professor
Claudio Teitelboim (postdoc@cecs.cl) by May 15, 2001.
The Center has an ongoing effort in black holes and gravitation, and high
energy physics. At present the research group is composed by two senior and
three junior faculty members, plus two postdoctoral fellows and five
students at different stages of their Ph.D. thesis. During the present
academic year a new group in Theoretical Astrophysics will be started.
The Center, created in 1984, is a small, private Institute for conducting
research in Theoretical Physics and Molecular Biophysics. The research in
Physics deals with black holes, the problem of the cosmological constant
and gauge theories. In Biology, research focuses on transport processes,
cell communication and signaling phenomena at the molecular level.
The year 2000 marks the start of a period of expansion and consolidation of
CECS. The Center has moved to the beautiful city of Valdivia, 800 km south
of Santiago. There, it has a privileged location by the riverside, housed
mainly at the former Schuster Hotel, a historical landmark of the city.
